In keeping with Australia’s national interests and international obligations, Defence facilitates the responsible export of military and dual-use goods and technologies from Australia.
Defence Export Controls’ quarterly permit statistics provide:
- the number and types of export applications received and finalised
- application processing timeframes
- the estimated total value of permits issued
- the breakdown of permits issued to end-users by continent.
Reports from Q1 financial year 2024 – 2025 onwards include 4 key enhancements directed by the Deputy Prime Minister in 2024, including:
- Releasing permit data on a quarterly basis, adjusted from annually.
- Listing export permits by end-user destination.
- Providing a high-level breakdown of the number of approved permits regarding Part 1 (Munitions List) and Part 2 (Dual Use) of the Defence and Strategic Goods List (DSGL).
- Reporting on the number of permits issued against categories outlined in the DSGL.
The statistics do not equate to actual exports as there is no obligation to complete an export once a permit is issued.
