Australian language specialists from the Defence International Training Centre have delivered teacher training in Hanoi, Vietnam, as part of Indo-Pacific Endeavour (IPE).
Commander IPE Brigadier Jennifer Harris said it was the fourth year of the training program, which had become a feature of IPE.
“Each iteration builds on the last, strengthening our shared capacity and reinforcing the bonds of friendship and trust between our nations,” Brigadier Harris said.
“In a world of many languages, English continues to play a central role in facilitating multinational cooperation, peacekeeping operations and joint military exercises.
“English language teachers are essential to enabling stronger collaboration, and enhancing mutual understanding across borders.”
Captain Jennifer Hackney and Chris Wilkinson delivered the training to 39 participants from Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia over a week.
'In a world of many languages, English continues to play a central role in facilitating multinational cooperation, peacekeeping operations and joint military exercises.'
As the soon-to-be Defence Cooperation Education Officer in Vietnam, Captain Hackney said she was excited to play a role in the interoperability of the Indo-Pacific region.
“English language teachers have a direct impact on preparing military members to operate and succeed in the international military environment,” Captain Hackney said.
She said it was an honour to contribute to the way future leaders engaged with the world so cooperation and understanding remained at the heart of military partnerships.
Mr Wilkinson said he could not be happier with the way the students embraced the course.
“The enthusiasm displayed in their micro-teaching, their willingness to take risks, and especially the way they’ve supported and connected with each other is something they should all be very proud of,” he said.
