The Joint Studies Paper Series was published from 2017 to 2021.

The research papers examined the elements of Australian Defence jointness, officially defined as activities, operations and organisations in which elements of at least 2 Services participate.

Since 2023, Australia has shifted from a joint force approach to an integrated force. The release of the National Defence Strategy recognised that responding to modern threats requires a whole-of-government and whole-of-nation effort, bringing together all elements of Australia’s national power under the concept of National Defence.

Research papers relating to the integrated force can be found in the Australian Journal of Defence and Strategic Studies.
