Defence has launched a shared framework for Defence and industry to work together in delivering base services that underpin Defence capability and support mission readiness.
The Base Services Team Charter establishes a common set of values, behaviours and priorities that strengthen collaboration across the many organisations and individuals responsible for delivering integrated base services for Defence.
Services such as security, accommodation management, cleaning, catering and estate maintenance are covered by the charter. These services provide essential support that enables ADF personnel to live, work and train across the Defence estate.
Assistant Secretary Base Services Transformation and Estate Data Systems Luke McLeod said the charter recognises that effective base services are fundamental to Defence's ability to achieve its objectives.
“From supporting day-to-day operations to enabling training, preparedness and capability outcomes, base services play a critical role in sustaining operational effectiveness across the Defence estate,” Mr McLeod said.
“The charter reinforces a unified approach that focuses on delivering reliable, professional and integrated services that puts the Defence mission first.”
He said the charter, developed by Defence and industry, reflects a shared commitment to working as a team of teams across organisational and contractual boundaries.
“It promotes collaboration, accountability, trust and open communication, helping to ensure that decisions are informed, issues are addressed early and opportunities for continuous improvement are realised,” Mr McLeod said.
The charter identifies four key areas that support success: enabling reliable, mission-focused base services; resolving issues through shared ownership; sharing information to enable better decisions; and collaborating to deliver integrated outcomes for Defence.
“Together, these principles strengthen mission readiness, operational effectiveness and stewardship of the Defence estate,” Mr McLeod said.
