Air Force Corporal Tara Best always knew she would work for the ADF.
“I come from a Defence family where both my parents were in the Navy, they met while at sea,” she said.
“The military was always going to be a good option for me after I left school, as I knew it would give me great life experiences and further education.
“I also saw that, after Mum and Dad finished their time in Defence, their Navy experience helped them to find work in other sectors.”
Corporal Best is a security member at Combat Support Group in Tindal in the Northern Territory. Her responsibilities include the protection of Air Force infrastructure. She enjoys life in Tindal, even though it is a long way from a Navy base.
'The military was always going to be a good option for me after I left school, as I knew it would give me great life experiences and further education.'
“Growing up with Mum and Dad in the Navy, I knew working for the ADF would mean adventure would be a part of my work,” she said.
“Defence has given me the same benefits I saw my own family enjoy, even more so since I have progressed further into my career. I have access to subsidised housing, remote location leave travel, and free medical and dental.
“I’ve seen different bases around Australia in my mustering in a range of postings, exercises and operations, while also finding my interests in the career pathways provided to me.”
Corporal Best is excited about the job options ahead and has a passion for instructional work.
“I’m looking forward to getting into the instructional workspace, training the fifth generation Air Force to become capable aviators, while gaining my own skill set for future opportunities,” she said.
“I love my job and am looking forward to seeing where it will take me in the future.”
