Overview

Intermediate Australian English Language course (IAELC) is part of the main suite of English Language courses at Defence International Training Centre (DITC).

The 11-week course aims to prepare international military personnel linguistically, culturally, and academically for their participation in training or employment.

The main focus of this course is to improve reading, writing, listening, and speaking proficiency in a general and military context.

Learning outcomes

The course aims to develop English language outcomes that demonstrate a variety of English speaking, reading, writing, and listening skills commensurate with achieving Australian Defence Force English Language Profiling System (ADFELPS) level 6.

Prerequisites

  • A minimum ADFELPS levels S5, L5, R5, W5. Candidates for the course who do not meet this entry level must request a waiver from the Head of Section.
  • Completion of the Australian Reception Period (RP) course.

Defence Co-operation Program nominees who wish to enhance their current level of English.
