Gender equality reporting

Defence participates in the Workplace Gender Equality Agency (WGEA) – Commonwealth Public Sector Gender Equality Reporting Program in accordance with the Workplace Gender Equality Act 2012.

WGEA publishes Commonwealth public sector employer equality reports on the WGEA website.

Submissions

Defence submits Australian Public Service (APS) workforce data based on the 6 gender equality indicators:

  • gender composition of the workforce
  • gender composition of governing bodies of relevant employers
  • equal remuneration between women and men
  • availability and utility of employment terms, conditions and practices relating to flexible working arrangements for employees and to working arrangements supporting employees with family or caring responsibilities
  • consultation with employees on issues concerning gender equality in the workplace
  • sexual harassment, harassment on the ground of sex or discrimination.

Defence has submitted for reporting periods:

  • 1 January 2022 to 31 December 2022
  • 1 January 2023 to 31 December 2023.

Pay gap statement

WGEA are publishing the Commonwealth public sector employer pay gap data for the first time in May 2025.

The Defence pay gap employer statement highlights Defence’s progress towards gender equality and ongoing commitment to addressing the existing gender pay gap.
