Defence Honours & Awards is a Defence People Group website
We provide medallic recognition to current serving and discharged Australian Defence Force personnel and Defence civilians. Awards are issued from the Australian and Imperial honours and awards systems from World War One to current day. We develop Defence honours and awards policy and provide advice to Government on honours and awards issues.
The Directorate of Honours and Awards is experiencing a large volume of applications and there may be a 10 month processing delay. The upgrade to a new ICT Assessment System and the increased volume of applications from ANZAC Day have contributed to these delays.
The relocation of the National Archives of Australia has resulted in limited access to records from 30 October 2016 to mid July 2017. DH&A can request records for urgent cases such as terminally ill former serving ADF members. We apologise for the inconvenience and encourage those to apply for medals after July 2017.
The Australian Defence Force is the first defence force in the world to implement recognition of Military Working Dogs. The Canine Operational Service Medal recognises the contribution Military Working Dogs make whilst serving on operations. The Medal forms part of Defence's internal recognition scheme and is not part of the Australian Honours and Awards System. Link to page.
The palm on the Citation is bronze, rather than gold, and previously issued citation devices are incorrect. Personnel wishing to obtain the bronze palm device should return their existing device for replacement. Link to Citation page.
