Defence + Industry Conference 2016
Leaders, decision makers and subject matter experts from across Defence and industry came together at the recent 2016 Defence + Industry (D+I) conference to discuss issues of importance to the defence sector.
There have been a number of changes made to the event, traditionally held interstate every two years. The decision was made to not only make D+I an annual event, but also to move it to Canberra, making it more accessible for many stakeholders to attend.
Through the recent 2016 Defence White Paper, the 2016 Integrated Investment Program and the 2016 Defence Industry Policy Statement, the Government's clear intent is to re-set and transform Defence and industry’s relationship, as well as acknowledge industry as a fundamental input to capability, the theme for this year’s conference.
Deputy Secretary Capability Acquisition and Sustainment Group, Kim Gillis, said the conference provided a sound platform for Government-to-business and business-to-business interactions.
“This year's event brought together keynote speakers, decision-makers, equipment operators, project managers and prime and small to medium enterprises from across the Defence and industry sector,” Mr Gillis said.
“We had some concise and thought-provoking presentations with a premium on Defence industry involvement through Q&A panel sessions and interactive feedback on key topics.”
One innovation which received widespread praise was the online interaction capability. This allowed attendees to use their smartphones to submit questions and comments in real time, giving them even more control over the direction of discussions.
Topics covered in this year’s D+I included the 2016 Defence White Paper and 2016 Integrated
Investment Program, reforms in contracting, the new Capability Life Cycle and transforming the relationship between Defence and industry.
