Defence is holding a virtual community information session about the divestment of the Atherton Rifle Range. This is an opportunity for the community to speak with Australian Government representatives about the divestment process, transition planning and next steps.
The Staging and Support Base Rockhampton Base Support Area extends from Mackay in the north to Biloela in the south and west to Blackwater. This base serves as the main staging area for units training at Shoalwater Bay Training Area. It is located on approximately 39 hectares of land at 68 Western Street, Rockhampton, and is approximately 40 minutes or 75 km away from the Shoalwater Bay Training Area.
Was originally developed by the United States of America during World War II as a Defence storage and warehouse facility. Currently houses major stores holdings.
Prior to entering contractor areas all visitors are to report to the sign in point. When any contractor work areas during site hours sign in register must be completed at all reception areas.
7:30 am - 4:30 pm
Victoria Barracks is a heritage significant site. It currently accommodates various office based functions from the three services, as well as the Capability Acquisition and Sustainment Group and the Vice Chief of Defence Force.
Speed limit is 10 km/h throughout the base unless otherwise signposted.
Home of the Army Aviation Training Centre and also hosts the Republic of Singapore Airforce Oakey Helicopter Group.
Swartz Barracks provides officers and soldiers with practical on-the-job aviation training for roles such as avionics technician, pilot and ground crewman mission support.
Home to various squadrons and schools involved in areas such as contingency response, expeditionary health, security and combat survival.
On arrival visitors must present their Defence Common Access Card at the Access Control Point located on Ingham Road at the Pilkington Street intersection.
7 am – 4 pm Monday – Friday.
Speed limit is 40 km/h throughout the base unless otherwise signposted and is not to exceed 10 km/h when overtaking formed military members.
This ‘forward facing’ base is designed so that operational units can move into existing facilities at little or no notice in the event of a crisis or for Defence exercises.
Access to the base is to be coordinated through the RAAF Townsville Air Base Command Post.
Visitors and contractors must sign in and out of the base via the register located at the RAAF Caretaker’s Office.
As the site is remote, a mobile number must be provided on the sign in sheet in the event of an emergency.
RAAF Amberley is the Air Force's largest base, employing over 5,000 people working in training, contingency response, healthcare, communications and other areas.
Visitors must report at Pass Office on Southern Amberley Road to collect their Visitor Identification Card (VIC) to gain entry. Defence Common Access Card (DCAC) holders from another base can email the Pass Office to activate swipe entry before visiting.

Home of the headquarters of 51st Battalion, The Far North Queensland Regiment (FNQR), covering far North Queensland with regional depots from Cairns to Thursday Island. Tasked with the responsibility to conduct reconnaissance and surveillance across Australia's far north.
Home to the 3rd Brigade and elements of the 1st Division, 11th Brigade and 17th Sustainment Brigade and one of the major military establishments in Northern Australia. The base is also home to units from Joint Capability Group such as Joint Logistic Unit and elements of Joint Health Unit North Queensland.
Visitors without a Defence Common Access Card will need to access Ironside Drive or Cluden Drive to be issued with a Visitor Identification Card. Heavy vehicle must use Cluden Drive.
