The Multi Role Helicopter Rapid Replacement Project will acquire 40 UH-60M Black Hawks as a proven and mature utility helicopter to replace Army’s current fleet of MRH90 Taipans.

LAND 4503 Phase 1 Armed Reconnaissance Helicopter Replacement will acquire 29 AH-64E Apache helicopters to replace the ARH Tiger.

The Tactical Uncrewed Aerial System Project (LAND129 Phase 3) will replace the RQ-7B Shadow 200 Tactical Uncrewed Aerial System (UAS) with a new UAS that supports the tactical level intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance requirements of Army’s Combat Brigades.

The CH-47F Chinook is a versatile, twin-engine, tandem rotor heavy-lift helicopter. It has a top speed of 170 knots and is faster than many contemporary utility or attack helicopters.

Chinook’s primary role includes troop movements, logistics, battlefield support and assistance to the community during severe weather events. In June 2022, the Army CH-47F Chinook fleet increased to 14 aircraft.

CA49 Uncrewed Aerial Systems (UAS) encompasses 5 Uncrewed Aerial Systems (UASs) platform types designed to enhance the Australian Defence Force’s Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) capabilities. CA49 is expected to grow to approximately 10 platform types by 2025 based on current acquisition program goals.

The Shadow Tactical UAS is a large UAS operated by 20 Regiment Royal Australian Artillery. The Shadow is capable of long-endurance flights and carries advanced sensors for ISR and target acquisition missions.

The Improved Embarked Logistics Support Helicopter Project (SEA9100 Phase 1) will expand and rationalise the Royal Australian Navy’s support and logistics helicopter fleet through the Foreign Military sales acquisition of additional MH-60R Seahawk helicopters. 

The Project will acquire 12 helicopters for operation on the Navy Amphibious and Afloat Support fleet. An additional helicopter will also be acquired to remediate a fleet loss on operations in October 2021, expanding the MH-60R fleet to 36 in total.

The Helicopter Aircrew Training System (HATS) provides a rotary wing training capability for Navy and Army aircrew to meet the future rotary training needs of the Australian Defence Force.

AIR6502 Phase 1 Medium Range Ground Based Air Defence

As a component to the Australian Defence Force’s (ADF) Integrated Air and Missile Defence Program, the Medium Range Ground Based Air Defence project will deliver a ground-based, middle-layer, area air defence capability, designed to deter, deny and/or defeat air and missile threats. 

The system will be designed to operate both independently or while integrated with other elements of the ADF Integrated Air and Missile Defence capability and will counter a range of current and emerging air and missile threats.

The Defence Strategic Review describes an enhanced, all-domain Integrated Air and Missile Defence capability as critical to the Australian Defence Force (ADF).

A foundational element of Defence’s Integrated Air and Missile Defence capability is the Joint Air Battle Management System being delivered under project AIR6500 Phase 1.

The Air Battlespace Management systems provide command and control functions delivering air defence in the interest of Australia’s national security.
