Maritime Mining

The Australian Defence Force (ADF) will purchase new, smart sea mines to reinvigorate Defence’s maritime mining capability. The sea mines can be deployed from submarines, ships and aircraft.

Following market evaluation in 2022, RWM Italia was selected as the market leading solution to provide the capability. RWM Italia demonstrated the ability to produce the quantities of sea mines needed, and the technical capability to meet ADF strategic objectives.

Land Combat Vehicle System (Infantry Fighting Vehicle)

Defence has contracted Hanwha Defence Australia to deliver and support 129 locally built Redback infantry fighting vehicles for the Australian Army.

The total value of the project is approximately $7 billion dollars, representing the single largest investment in Army capability to date. The combined value of the acquisition and initial support contracts is approximately $4.5 billion dollars.

Combat Reconnaissance Vehicle

LAND 400 Phase 2 will modernise Army’s Armoured Fighting Vehicle capability, which will provide mounted support to Defence operations for decades into the future, but most importantly will enhance the safety, security and protection of Australian troops. The Boxer CRV will replace the Australian Light Armoured Vehicle, which has seen extensive operational service since its introduction in 1996.

Medium Range Ground - Based Air Defence

AIR6502 Phase 1 Medium Range Ground Based Air Defence

As a component to the Australian Defence Force’s (ADF) Integrated Air and Missile Defence Program, the Medium Range Ground Based Air Defence project will deliver a ground-based, middle-layer, area air defence capability, designed to deter, deny and/or defeat air and missile threats.

The system will be designed to operate both independently or while integrated with other elements of the ADF Integrated Air and Missile Defence capability and will counter a range of current and emerging air and missile threats.

Joint Air Battle Management System

The Defence Strategic Review describes an enhanced, all-domain Integrated Air and Missile Defence capability as critical to the Australian Defence Force (ADF).

A foundational element of Defence’s Integrated Air and Missile Defence capability is the Joint Air Battle Management System being delivered under project AIR6500 Phase 1.

Air Battlespace Management

The Air Battlespace Management product is currently undergoing a significant mid-life refresh. It is system-of-systems consisting of deployable cabins, mobile radar and multiple sensor arrays that draw information from air, land and sea domains. This system-of-systems is designed to provide air battlespace command and control functions at fixed regional operation centres located at RAAF Darwin and RAAF Williamtown and the Battlespace Surveillance Centre at No. 1 Remote Sensor Unit at RAAF Edinburgh.

Protected Mobility Vehicle

CA04 sustains the Protected Mobility Vehicle, including:

  • Medium (Bushmaster)
  • Light (Hawkei).

Thales Australia Ltd (Thales) has been contracted by Defence for the manufacture and through-life-support of both the Bushmaster and Hawkei vehicles.

Bushmaster

The Bushmaster is an Australian-built four-wheel drive protected mobility vehicle designed from the ground up to provide a balance of requirements for:

PC-21 Advanced Trainer Aircraft

The Pilot Training System (PTS) provides the ADF with a fixed-wing pilot training capability. The PTS delivers all aspects of initial Pilot and Qualified Flying Instructor training.
