Training and Awareness

With DPN Access

For those with Defence Protected Network (DPN) access, Defence’s security training courses can be found on the internal online learning platform - Campus.

Without DPN Access

If you do not have access to the Defence Protected Network (DPN), security training courses are available on either Defence’s online training platform ADELE Open (ADELE O), through a SCORM package or Campus Anywhere.

ADELE O is a Defence managed online training platform available to DISP companies. The ADELE O platform allows required personnel of DISP companies to complete the online e-Learning courses without the need for their own Learning Management System (LMS).

The enrolment codes for courses hosted on ADELE O are available online via the Security Toolkit page of the DISP Security Portal. DISP companies can request access to the DISP Security Portal for their Chief Security Officer from disp.info@defence.gov.au.

SCORM, which stands for Shareable Content Object Reference Model, is an industry standard used for online eLearning courses. This option allows DISP companies to host Defence eLearning products on their own Learning Management System (LMS).

All SCORM packages are available online via the Security Toolkit page of the DISP Security Portal. DISP companies can request access to the DISP Security Portal for their Chief Security Officer from disp.info@defence.gov.au. You will need to ensure the downloaded SCORM package is provided to your I.T. or Learning Management System (LMS) administrator. They will know how to upload the SCORM package to your company’s LMS.

Campus Anywhere is available to all Defence personnel including:

  • Contractors
  • Consultants and
  • Outsourced service providers.

For Campus Anywhere access, industry personnel should request a Campus Anywhere account through their Contract Manager, Security Officer or Project Manager.

Security Awareness

The mandatory Annual Security Awareness (ASA) Course informs personnel of their security responsibilities and provides a national-level awareness of security issues in Defence and defence industry.

The course is available in eLearning format via ADELE O*, SCORM*, Campus or Campus Anywhere.

*ADELE O and SCORM are for DISP members only.

Official Information

This course provides the knowledge and skills necessary to handle Official Information, in line with the requirements of the Defence Security Principles Framework (DSPF).

The course is available in eLearning format via ADELE O*, SCORM*, Campus or Campus Anywhere.

*ADELE O and SCORM are for DISP members only.

Security Officers

To satisfy the Defence Industry Security Program (DISP) membership requirements your Security Officer will need to attend the Department of Defence’s Security Officer training course.

This one-day Virtual Classroom (VC) offering, equips participants with the knowledge and skills necessary to:

  • Provide security advice to Managers and colleagues
  • Provide support to Managers in the implementation of DSPF principles, processes and controls
  • Undertake basic Security Officer administrative tasks.

Security Officer training has a 3-year expiry and training should be renewed prior to the expiration.

Nomination Process (for DISP members)

If your company is in the process of applying for DISP membership, you will be required to nominate a Chief and/or Primary Security Officer.  The DISP Training team will arrange Security Officer training as part of the application process.

If your organisation has not yet applied for DISP membership, see How to Apply.

If you are not the ‘Primary’ or ‘Chief’ Security Officer of your company and you wish to undertake Security Officer training (or you are renewing your Security Officer training), you must apply through your Chief Security Officer. This is to ensure that:

  • Chief Security Officers are aware of and maintain an accurate Security Officer network in their company
  • Priorities for training are allocated appropriately.

Chief Security Officers can send nominations for additional Security Officers through to disp.info@defence.gov.au and a DISP Processing Officer will contact you to finalise the enrolment. Include the following text in your email title: Security Officer course nomination for DISP members.

Prerequisite training

There is no prerequisite training for the DISP Security Officer course.

Security Risk Management

This one-day face-to-face workshop:

  • bridges the gap between the policy requirements of security risk management and its practical application within the Defence context
  • enables participants to conduct a Security Risk Assessment, create a security plan and how to maintain the plan
  • provides the latest advice and resources to support the management of security risk in Defence.

This workshop is for:

  • personnel engaging with security risk in their implementation of DSPF principles, processes and controls
  • Security Officers providing advice and support

The Workshop is best delivered on location so participants can learn with actual stakeholders and discuss their local establishment-specific requirements. This real-world approach significantly improves the quality of the final SRM plan.
