Leading Aircraft Woman (LACW) Lisa Highfield from Tannum Sands in Queensland has played golf at the Calliope Golf Club nearly every Saturday for the last 15 years.
Now she’s deployed to the Middle East, her competition might just stand a chance.
The passionate golfer is working with Force Support Unit 8 (FSU-8) at Al Minhad Air Base in the United Arab Emirates. It provides vital logistics and supply support to all Australian defence Force elements in the Middle East.
An Air Force Supply airwoman by trade, Lisa’s role in the warehouse involves accounting and administration of Defence assets.
She said it’s her first operational deployment since joining the Air Force.
“I consider being selected for this deployment as one of the most memorable moments of my career. Now that I’m here, I am making new friends, gaining new skills, and passing my knowledge onto others,” Lisa said.
She’ll spend the next few months with FSU-8, before returning home to her three great loves.
“I am really most looking forward to catching up with family and friends, and of course a round of golf or two.
“In fact, this place is a little bit like a bunker because there’s just so much sand,” she said.
