Defence celebrates NAIDOC Week 2025

9 July 2025

Defence is proud to stand alongside First Nations peoples and communities in celebrating NAIDOC Week 2025, a national week of recognition, respect and celebration of the world’s oldest continuing culture.

This year’s theme, ‘The Next Generation: Strength, Vision & Legacy’, reflects the power of intergenerational leadership, celebrating the resilience of Elders, the aspirations of youth and the legacy of culture that continues to shape our shared future.

The theme celebrates not only the achievements of the past but the bright future ahead, empowered by the strength of young First Nations leaders.

Defence embraces this theme and the opportunity to honour the contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples across our workforce.

Defence also continues efforts to close the gap through the implementation of the National Agreement on Closing the Gap, First Nations Employment Pathways, and the Defence Indigenous Procurement Strategy.

Defence continues to lead the Commonwealth in its implementation of the Indigenous Procurement Policy, consistently exceeding Government targets and remaining the Commonwealth’s largest procurer of First Nations goods and services.

During NAIDOC Week 2025, Defence personnel across the country will come together to celebrate culture, promote reconciliation and honour the extraordinary legacy of First Nations service.

Defence affirms its commitment to building a more inclusive, respectful and culturally confident future.
