Remembrance Day

Today on Remembrance Day, Defence joins all Australians as we pause to honour those who have given their life in service to our nation. We also remember and pay respect to those who have served our nation on military and peacekeeping operations for more than a century.

Chief of the Defence Force, General Angus Campbell, AO, DSC, will attend the national ceremony at the Australian War Memorial in Canberra.

“On 11 November, we stand with all Australians to pay tribute to the men and women who have served our nation and, in particular, those who have made the ultimate sacrifice,” General Campbell said.

“More than 103,000 Australians who lost their lives in service to this country are listed on the Roll of Honour at the Australian War Memorial.

“We acknowledge their service, courage and sacrifice, and we draw upon their legacy, which continues to inspire our Defence Force today.

“Today, we remember them, their families, and their loved ones. Lest we forget.”

The Australian Defence Force currently has approximately 2,250 personnel deployed on operations overseas and within Australia, actively protecting Australia and our region. They will pause to commemorate Remembrance Day, where operations and restrictions allow.
