Statement - Secretary and Chief of Defence Force test positive for COVID-19

The Secretary for the Department of Defence, Greg Moriarty, and the Chief of the Defence Force, General Angus Campbell AO DSC, have tested positive to COVID-19.

Both the Secretary and Chief of the Defence Force are following health guidelines and isolating at their respective homes in Canberra, ACT.

The Secretary, who tested positive on Thursday 31 March 2022, is experiencing flu-like symptoms. The Associate Secretary, Matt Yannopoulos, has been appointed Acting Secretary while the Secretary recovers.

The Chief of the Defence Force tested positive today, 2 April 2022, and is experiencing mild symptoms. He will carry out his duties from home while in isolation and remains in command of the Australian Defence Force.
