1 positive result for COVID-19 - Darwin

13 July 2021

A United States (US) Army member who arrived in Australia as part of Exercise Talisman Sabre 2021 (TS21) on 08 July has returned a positive COVID-19 result during routine testing conducted as part of their mandatory 14-day quarantine period. The member had no contact with the Northern Territory community.

The US Army member is asymptomatic and has been transferred to the care of NT Health at the NT Centre for National Resilience at Howard Springs.

All foreign military personnel arriving Australia for TS21 undertake mandatory 14 day quarantine, in this instance at Bladin Village, Northern Territory.

All international forces entering Australia must comply with mandatory quarantine and travel requirements. These include:

  • Presenting a negative COVID-19 PCR test before departure to Australia;
  • Mandatory 14-day quarantine in facilities approved by the relevant state or territory Chief Health Officer;
  • COVID-19 testing on arrival and before exiting their mandatory 14-day quarantine period; and
  • Daily health checks that include screening for COVID-19 symptoms.

TS21 is being planned in close consultation with the states and territories and the health and safety of all personnel involved, as well as members of the community, is the highest priority.
