Army at Land Forces 2018 comes to a close

The Army at Land Forces Seminar 2018, held in Adelaide, came to a close today. Over the past few days military leaders from around the world held high-level discussions and shared new ideas.

Land Forces is the Australian Army’s biennial event bringing together national, regional and global partners to discuss issues relevant to the future of land forces.

The Chief of Army Lieutenant General Rick Burr, AO, DSC, MVO said the Army at Land Forces Seminar was a highly successful event.

“This week we hosted a series of forums and panel discussions with international delegations to discuss the challenges of being prepared for future environments and to consider new and innovative ways to operate and evolve our militaries,” Lieutenant General Burr said.

“I am honoured to have been able to participate in bilateral meetings with some of our international partners, to discuss ideas and share insights regarding our region.”

More than 30 leaders from international militaries attended the event, contributing to an attendance of 300 invited guests participating in discussion and debate on the application of land power in the Indo-Pacific.

“The opportunity to meet with my counterparts, defence industry and academics to discuss land power in our region has been invaluable,” Lieutenant General Burr said.

Lieutenant General Rick Burr said Army at Land Forces 2018 highlighted the Army’s commitment to improving how we engage in missions around the world, across the spectrum of cooperation, competition and conflict.

“The operating environment is increasingly volatile, uncertain and complex. We must embrace and understand technological opportunities to prepare our Army for the challenges of the future,” Lieutenant General Burr said.

Army’s involvement in Land Forces 2018 was a key opportunity to discuss strategy with key international, industry and intellectual partners.

“Events such as Army at Land Forces enhance our capability and those of our allies to meet new and evolving challenges in our region by harnessing the potential in working alongside our international partners and allies,” Lieutenant General Burr said.

“By sharing knowledge and expertise, and considering differing views, we can prepare for an environment with evolving threats.  It’s important we continue to strengthen our presence in the Indo Pacific through partnerships, people and technology.”

“Our Army is an Army in Motion. We will take the views and lessons from this seminar to help us on our journey of continuous improvement,” Lieutenant General Burr said.
