Chief of the Defence Force welcomes ADF’s future leaders

The Australian Defence Force’s (ADF’s) current leaders joined with family and friends to welcome its future leaders during the Chief of the Defence Force Parade at the Australian Defence Force Academy (ADFA) in Canberra today.
 
The annual parade represents the culmination of five weeks of initial military training, marking an import milestone for 329 officer cadets and midshipmen as they transition to military life.
 
In congratulating the Year One cadets, Chief of the Defence Force, Air Chief Marshal Binskin, spoke about the unique role of military leaders.
 
“It is a great privilege to exercise the responsibility of leadership on behalf of the Australian Defence Force at any level,” Air Chief Marshal Binskin said.
 
“From the moment you were sworn in, you accepted the responsibility of leadership and by default, the trust of the Australian people with an expectation that you will uphold the highest standards – always.”
 
This year’s parade featured a flypast consisting of a C-17A Globemaster and three F/A-18 Hornets recognising Air Chief Marshal Binskin’s extensive contribution to Australian air power over almost 40 years of service.
 
The fighter jets from RAAF Williamtown in New South Wales were a fitting send-off for Air Chief Marshal Binskin’s final Chief of the Defence Force Parade.
 
ADFA is a unique military institution combining military education and training with study for an undergraduate degree through the University of New South Wales - Canberra.
 
The Year One officer cadets and midshipmen will join the other ADFA cadets next week when the academic year commences.
