The sunset touchdown of four Philippine Air Force (PAF) FA-50PH Golden Eagles signalled the first arrival of fighter jets for Exercise Pitch Black.

Hosted in Darwin from July 20 to August 7, Pitch Black brings together 20 nations, 100 fighter jets and 2500 personnel to train at RAAF Bases Darwin, Tindal and Amberley over the three weeks of the international exercise.

As the PAF Contingent Commander, Colonel Thomas Ryan Seguin said he is delighted to be back for the Philippines’ second visit to the biennial capstone and international engagement exercise.

“We are excited to have finally arrived in Darwin and thank the RAAF for its warm welcome and outstanding support as we join Exercise Pitch Black 2026,” Colonel Seguin said.

“The Philippine Air Force is proud to once again contribute to this world-class exercise, and we remain committed to learning, collaborating and flying safely throughout the mission.”

The participation of the Philippines in Pitch Black demonstrates the growing friendship between the PAF and RAAF. Wing Commander Rowan Paice, the Senior ADF Officer at RAAF Base Darwin, said he is keen to have the Philippine team back in Darwin.

“This reflects the growing strength of the Australian-Philippines defence relationship, built on a shared commitment to regional security, professionalism and close cooperation,” Wing Commander Paice said.

“We are also proud to host the contingent in a city with a vibrant and valued Filipino community whose enduring contribution to Darwin helps make this partnership especially meaningful.”

The Philippines is the first of many participating nations from a range of regional and allied partners set to join RAAF for Pitch Black.
