From shaping the Navy’s future logistics capability to enabling operations across the joint force, Captain Christopher Searle’s career has been defined by turning strategy into real-world results.

As part of the 2026 King’s Birthday honours, Captain Searle was awarded the Conspicuous Service Cross for his outstanding service and leadership as Director of Navy Strategic Logistics.

“The most rewarding aspect of the role was the opportunity to shape Navy’s future logistics capability and turn strategic challenges into real-world solutions,” he said.

“I also valued the opportunity to work closely with partner nations, which helped shape our approach to interoperability and shared logistics challenges in the region.”

Now serving as Commanding Officer 1st Joint Movement Unit (1JMU), Captain Searle applies that perspective to supporting operations through the coordination of personnel and materiel.

“Having the opportunity to command 1JMU has been especially meaningful. Leading a team that plays such a critical role in enabling Defence activities – often at short notice and across a wide range of operations – is incredibly rewarding,” Captain Searle said.

“That experience, combined with the strong ‘one team’ approach across JLC [Joint Logistics Command], HQJOC [Headquarters Joint Operations Command], the services and our partner organisations, really brings together everything that logistics is about.”

Captain Searle said his most meaningful achievements have been those that directly supported operations and people.

“Ultimately, it comes back to working with great teams and delivering outcomes that make a genuine difference,” he said.

He felt “genuinely humbled and very honoured” on receiving a King’s Birthday honour.

“The achievement has given me a moment to reflect on my journey so far, including the opportunities that I have been given and the incredible support from my family, friends and colleagues,” he said.

“I see this recognition as a testament to the outstanding efforts of the exceptional teams that I have had the privilege to work with.”
