Community members and Defence personnel participated in HMAS Penguin's Run Swim Run fitness challenge on March 4.
The 2km run, 500m swim and return 2km run followed a scenic course from Balmoral oval up through the seaside slopes of Penguin’s base, before heading down to the shore for the swim.
As the participants exited the water to complete the last running leg, colleagues, families and local supporters lined the course and cheered them on.
The event welcomed people of all fitness levels.
The fastest open male was Seaman Lachlan Blake and the fastest open woman Midshipman Cassie Heaslip.
After the race, participants gathered for a social barbecue lunch and awards ceremony, with the Mayor of Mosman, Ann Marie Kimber, and Commanding Officer Penguin, Commander Ian Walker, presenting the prizes.
“Events like the Run Swim Run embody the spirit of HMAS Penguin,” Commander Walker said.
“It is a place where Defence personnel and our local Mosman community come together with pride, energy and genuine camaraderie.”
The event was sponsored by RSL NSW, Legacy and The Navy’s Anchorage.
