Navy has launched Grey Shutterbugs: Volume Two, the latest instalment in its visual storytelling series, released to coincide with the Exercise Kakadu Fleet Review.
The publication highlights the extraordinary work of Navy imagery specialists – sailors whose skill, resilience and professionalism reveal moments of service rarely seen by the public.
Project manager and author Commander Will Singer said the second volume builds on the achievements of the first by focusing on six imagery specialists whose personal stories bring depth and context to their imagery.
“Building on the success of Volume One, this edition expands the lens to reveal decades of service, sacrifice and storytelling from some of Navy’s most talented photographers,” Commander Singer said.
Across multinational exercises, humanitarian operations and daily life at sea, imagery specialists document Navy’s people, capability and environment with precision and creativity.
Their work captures history as it unfolds – on rolling flight decks, in remote communities and alongside regional partners across the Indo-Pacific.
“Their images – woven with narrative reflections – offer an unfiltered look at the people behind the uniform and the extraordinary environments in which they live and serve,” Commander Singer said.

Volume Two highlights the demanding conditions imagery specialists routinely face.
Whether operating from a helicopter, documenting high‑tempo evolutions or capturing a moment of reunion on the wharf, their work reflects not only technical skill but emotional insight.
“From typhoon‑lashed decks and combat zones to community engagement in the Pacific, their work documents not only capability, but humanity,” Commander Singer said.
More than a photographic collection, Grey Shutterbugs: Volume Two is a tribute to the sailors who serve, the families who support them and the storytellers who preserve their legacy.
Through compelling imagery and personal accounts, the publication offers a deeper understanding of Navy life.
By sharing these perspectives, the volume continues shaping how Australia and international partners view the Royal Australian Navy.
It invites readers to step into the frame, look beyond the operational setting and experience the Navy through the eyes of those dedicated to capturing moments that matter.
