After 82 Defence personnel received their Australia Day honours and awards, Chief of the Defence Force Admiral David Johnston said Defence was proud to support activities across the country.

“Our sailors, soldiers and aviators are proud to stand with their communities across the nation on Australia Day,” Admiral Johnston said.

“Congratulations to all recipients of the Australia Day awards. These honours highlight the exceptional dedication and service of our people.”

In support of Australia Day, the Australian Defence Force provided spectacular displays across the country.

In Canberra, Defence personnel supported the Citizenship and Flag Raising Ceremony, welcoming Australia’s newest citizens.

In Sydney, HMAS Canberra was the flagship, while the Army conducted a 21-gun salute. Looking to the skies, the F-35A Lightning II flypast over Sydney Harbour was one of many performed by the Air Force across the country.

Earlier in the day, a Navy MH-60R Seahawk helicopter, with the Australian National Flag underslung, flew over the harbour and along the beaches to the north and south of the city.
