Defence’s Global Supply Chain (GSC) Program continues to secure more opportunities for local business, generating more than $2.35 billion worth of contracts to 307 Australian Defence suppliers.
The GSC Program assists major Defence companies (known as ‘primes’) to increase the number of Australian suppliers and export opportunities within their global supply chains.
Assistant Secretary Industry Policy and International Engagement Branch Liane Pettitt said the GSC Program continued to expand and deliver important outcomes.
“The 2024 increase from seven to 13 major Defence companies now participating in the program has enabled more Australian businesses to diversify their revenue streams, achieve greater economies of scale and strengthen their capacity and resilience through export – leading to a more sustainable and competitive sovereign industry base,” Ms Pettitt said.
“Over the past 12 months, the GSC Program has seen an increase in contracts of nearly 30 per cent, exceeding $412 million and welcoming approximately 50 new Australian suppliers.
“This ongoing expansion delivers on the objectives of Defence Industry Development Strategy, providing Australian businesses with greater access to broader export markets and ensuring an ongoing pipeline of work and growth.”
As a demonstration of the benefits and progress of the initiative, Boeing, the first major Defence industry partner to join Australia’s GSC Program, has awarded a record $1 billion worth of contracts to Australian suppliers through this program.
“We’re proud of the progress and success of the program as it continues to identify export opportunities for Australian suppliers to produce and deliver world-class and innovative Defence capabilities for our Australian Defence Force, now and into the future,” Ms Pettitt said.
The GSC Program continues to strengthen Australia's Defence industry as a key capability enabler, supporting national security by delivering and sustaining the capabilities Defence relies on – a key priority of the National Defence Strategy.
