The Australian Army Cadets (AAC) partnership with the Supercars Championships gave cadets a rare opportunity to engage with two of Australia’s high-profile sporting events.
The collaboration blended youth development with real-world exposure to STEM and event operations at the Bathurst 1000 and the Gold Coast 500.
Cadets gained exclusive behind-the-scenes access to the Supercars environment, interacting with professionals and technologies in engineering, communications, logistics and motorsport operations – all of which supported the AAC’s commitment to practical learning and skill-building.
Commander AAC Brigadier David McCammon said the partnership encouraged cadets to step outside their comfort zones and discover new strengths.
“It was inspiring to see their enthusiasm and adaptability as they took on new challenges and connected with the broader community,” Brigadier McCammon said.
“I look forward to seeing the lasting impact this experience will have on each cadet.”
Cadet Under Officer Caleb Flanagan, one of about 36 cadets who attended the Bathurst 1000, said it was a unique experience.
“We assisted in volunteer official roles, which included entry and exit scanning, as well as corporate building support,” he said.
“We also had the opportunity to interact with amazing people, including famous V8 Supercar drivers and teams. Additionally, we were granted exclusive access to special pit areas and garage tours.”
The partnership also provided a platform to showcase the AAC to families, industry representatives and potential recruits.
