With cybersecurity threats on the rise – amid emerging and disruptive technologies such as AI impacting all aspects of the way we live and operate – Indo-Pacific Endeavour 2025 in Brunei featured a cybersecurity workshop.

This key engagement brought together members of the ADF and the Royal Brunei Armed Forces (RBAF) to explore this shared challenge.

Reducing the risk of cybersecurity threats, being able to deny attempts, and responding to new technologies and incidents are common security challenges for both nations.

Sharing knowledge and experiences, there was much to be gained from the exchange between nations as they discussed cybersecurity principles and guidelines, along with the development of policies, security frameworks and legal considerations.

Royal Australian Air Force Defensive Cyber Planner Flight Lieutenant Marion Hamilton gave a presentation to the group on defence cybersecurity on behalf of the ADF.

“Having the opportunity to discuss this common security challenge with our Bruneian counterparts from the RBAF Cyber Defence Unit, and learning from each other in a respectful and peer-based exchange, provided mutual learning and collaboration,” Flight Lieutenant Hamilton said.

“It allows us to build relationships at the personal and organisational level that are essential to achieving a common understanding of shared security challenges.”
