The Naval Aviation Prospects Scheme (NAPS) has unveiled its new-look, purpose-built van to help inspire the next generation of aviators and technicians for Navy’s Fleet Air Arm (FAA).
Established in 2007 to address critical shortages in the aircrew and aviation technician categories, NAPS has become one of the FAA’s most recognisable recruiting initiatives, regularly engaging with schools, careers expos and at high-profile public events such as air shows.
In 2024, NAPS simulators and personnel appeared at 58 events, with another 15 the first half of 2025. The scheme’s popularity is steadily increasing, drawing strong crowds and providing Defence Force Recruiting (DFR) with a powerful platform to display Navy career opportunities.
NAPS has unveiled its newly fitted-out white Mercedes Sprinter van to support this growing demand. Purpose-built for NAPS operations, the vehicle is equipped with a hydraulic loading ramp to transport simulators and equipment safely, ensuring greater flexibility when engaging with communities across the country.
'Now, with the new van we look really professional.'
Adding to its appeal, the van now sports a striking new vinyl wrap featuring the faces of FAA members Petty Officer Aircrewman Leanne Ashton and Acting Sub-Lieutenant William Stiles.
Acting Sub-Lieutenant Stiles, who previously served as a leading seaman aviation technician, is now an aviation warfare officer conducting MH-60R Operational Flying Training – demonstrating the career pathways open to aspiring aviators.
“The NAPS helicopter simulator is really popular. Both kids and adults love it,” Leading Seaman Amanda White, a member of the NAPS team, said.

The refreshed NAPS vehicle is preparing for an extensive outreach journey, travelling from Darwin to Alice Springs and as far south as Hobart, bringing the excitement of naval aviation directly to communities across Australia.
With Petty Officer Ashton and Acting Sub-Lieutenant Stiles as the new faces of the FAA, the program will continue to display the opportunities and pride that come with serving in Navy aviation and the ADF.
