Australian defence industry companies have showcased their capabilities at Australia’s largest military exercise, Exercise Talisman Sabre, for the first time.
Australian and international defence ministers, military leaders and senior officials attended demonstrations as part of the Industry and Defence Science and Technology Showcase at Gallipoli Barracks, Queensland, on July 15.
Industry delegates showcased their world-leading capabilities to trusted partners from more than 19 nations involved in Talisman Sabre.
Department of Defence's First Assistant Secretary Industry Engagement Division, Capability Acquisition and Sustainment Group, Michael Howell, said Australia’s ability to deliver advanced defence capabilities was underpinned by partnerships.
“Partnerships with industry, academia and international partners enable game-changing ideas and cutting-edge science to be developed into capabilities that provide a competitive advantage to our sailors, soldiers and aviators," Mr Howell said.
“Australian defence industry is essential to delivering this vision, supporting our national security by delivering and sustaining the capabilities Defence relies on.
“We encourage Australian defence industry involvement in future iterations of Exercise Talisman Sabre and other exercises.”
Mr Howell said defence industry involvement in the showcase was in line with the objectives and outcomes detailed in the 2024 National Defence Strategy and the Defence Industry Development Strategy.
“The Defence Industry Development Strategy is the Government’s roadmap to deliver a stronger sovereign defence industrial base that is more resilient and better able to meet the needs of the Australian Defence Force at the pace we need it,” he said.
“As part of this strategy, Australian defence exports to trusted partners can build the capacity of their militaries and support their sovereignty, improve Australian Defence Force interoperability, and enhance bilateral relationships by building industry-to-industry links.”
The 11th iteration of Exercise Talisman Sabre ran from July 13 to August 4.
