From battle simulations to remote airfields, the Joint Capabilities Group Regional Information and Communications Technology (RICT) team is providing the essential digital backbone for Exercise Talisman Sabre 2025 (TS25).
Deputy Director Operations Matthew Sullivan said RICT teams had been embedded across the country as the boots on the ground for Cyber Operations Division, enabling secure, high-speed communications across both strategic headquarters and tactical sites.
“Their efforts span everything from fitting out the Gallipoli Barracks Battle Simulation Centre for key planning conferences, to deploying the complex Demountable Hut Precinct, transforming it into a temporary command centre supporting more than 700 personnel,” Mr Sullivan said.
“Working alongside Terrestrial communication, RICT has helped roll out over 1700 Defence computing devices and more than 1200 monitors to connect remote and fixed sites across the national footprint.
“Their support has extended to providing critical connectivity for international forces, including Broadband Technology Integration and National Broadband Network access, while deploying Cell on Wheels to boost mobile reception at remote locations, minimising pressure on civilian infrastructure.”
RICT’s support does not stop at the desktop. The Single Information Environment Operations team is enabling air operations, supporting the Deployable Mission Panning Facility for F-35 flying and maintenance, and ensuring ICT systems remain mission-ready throughout the exercise.
“We have to be agile,” Mr Sullivan said.
“From rapidly patching networks to helping stand up secure spaces, our team has been working around the clock to ensure this massive exercise runs smoothly – and securely.”
Throughout the exercise, RICT floorwalkers will continue to provide real-time support on the ground, while a dedicated TS25 service desk line ensures ICT issues are triaged quickly and resolved locally.
Australia is hosting Talisman Sabre from July 13 to August 4, with more than 40,000 military personnel from 19 nations set to participate.
