Indigenous youths connect with Army

16 May 2025

The relationship between Indigenous youths and Army continues to go from strength to strength after another successful Clean Slate without Prejudice (CSWP) activity at Victoria Barracks in Sydney.

CSWP, an Army-in-the-community initiative since 2014, promotes team-building, resilience, fitness and the relationship between Army and the Indigenous community.

Australian Army Command Indigenous liaison officer Major Peter Ross stages the activity twice a year.

“CSWP is a way of introducing Indigenous youth to the Army, and gain insight into a potential career in the ADF,” Major Ross said.

“The Tribal Warrior organisation, which facilitates CSWP here at Victoria Barracks, shares many of the same values by which Army lives, trains and fights by.

“It’s very important that we do things like this to be a part of the community.”

On the parade ground at historic Victoria Barracks, personnel, alongside members of Tribal Warrior, participated in a fun workout, which focused on boxing, practising routine, discipline and respect.

Tribal Warrior supporter General (retd) David Hurley attended the session.

Former participants of CSWP have gone on to join Army Cadet units, and some have undertaken recruit training at Kapooka.
