7th Brigade claimed victory in the Inter-Brigade Rugby Championships at Gallipoli Barracks, Brisbane, in late April.

The hosts dominated throughout the competition, and with their tough tackling and hard running, were comfortable victors in the final, defeating Land Combat College 36-7.

The team’s aggregate score for the tournament was 200-23, including a 36-0 victory over reigning premiers 3rd Brigade.

7th Brigade team manager Captain Brad Halpin said the team worked hard in the build-up to the tournament, and it was rewarding to see it pay off on the field.

“A lot of effort went into securing the release of players ahead of the tournament, and we were then lucky enough to be able to conduct a training camp the week prior to the competition,” he said.

"This allowed the squad to establish good combinations in critical positions and for everyone to get in the right mindset.

“Lifting the trophy was definitely the highlight, but another key moment was defeating 3rd Brigade in the opening game. They won the 2022 tournament after defeating us in the final, so it was a good first hit-out to establish our structure and build confidence.”

He said everyone involved enjoyed the tournament.

Captain Halpin said the opportunity to take a break from regular duties and take part in something like the championships was part of what made Defence a great and unique workplace.

“Sport is very important in Defence because it allows members to have a break from high-tempo work and pursue their passion in activities that encourage fitness and teamwork,” he said.
