Services help maintain mental health

9 October 2020

World Mental Health Day - October 10 - is an opportune time to remind people of the many mental health services available to ADF members.

The ADF Centre for Mental Health, with offices across Australia, is developing and delivering a large number of programs and initiatives.

Western Australia Regional Mental Health Manager Paul Blakey said as well as a robust set of mental health prevention and early-intervention programs, the ADF Centre for Mental Health team also provided consultancy services, mental health training and promotion initiatives.

“Your local ADF Centre for Mental Health really is a one-stop-shop for a range of mental health services that are available to our people,” Mr Blakey said.

“Essentially, it has four key lines of effort. These are mental health wellbeing and enhancement, health workforce skilling, consultancy and regional engagement.

“Each of these areas offers a range of services that ADF members can access simply by making contact.”

Mr Blakey said the centre's West Australian office was seeking expressions of interest from ADF personnel interested in becoming a workplace champion.

“This will provide opportunities to share mental health literature, information and events within your workplace, with the added opportunity to access specific training,” Mr Blakey said.

Mental Health Week, which concludes on October 18, is marked across Australia, with each state and territory adopting their own themes and holding their own events.

Western Australia's theme this year is 'Strengthening Our Community – Live, Learn, Work, Play'.
