Belinda Johnston, wife of Vice Chief of the Defence Force, Vice Admiral David Johnston AO, RAN, was appointed Defence Member and Family Support Patron in October 2019.
Her role as Patron is to provide support and recognition of ADF members and their families’ value and contribution to Defence, and to promote their connection with the wider Australian community.
As both the mother and partner of serving members, she understands the challenges families face throughout military life, including the challenge of maintaining a career as a partner.
Belinda has two adult children, including a daughter who is serving in the Australian Defence Force. Belinda has worked as an Occupational Therapist in the private and public sector both in Australia and overseas and has also been a stay-at-home mum.
Belinda continues to study part-time while working in Canberra. She says she is a keen but not always successful baker, loves music, and is happiest when walking with her fur-baby Bailey the golden retriever, sitting in the garden with her chickens, or being with friends and family.
We thank our outgoing Patron, Gitte Binskin. On behalf of Defence, we express our appreciation for her support during her four-year term and her sincere interest in our work and our people, including her passionate advocacy for military families.
