Defence Honours & Awards is part of the Defence People Group.
We provide medallic recognition to current serving and discharged Australian Defence Force personnel and Defence civilians. Awards are issued from the Australian and Imperial honours and awards systems from World War One to current day. We develop Defence honours and awards policy and provide advice to Government on honours and awards issues.
The medal recognises the service of Australian Defence Force members on special operations as declared by the Chief of the Defence Force from 1 November 2019. Go to Australian Operational Service Medal – Special Operations page.
The resilience and bravery displayed by Australian Service Contingents 1 and 2 during Operation TAMAR between 25 July 1994 and 8 March 1996 is being recognised by the Meritorious Unit Citation.
The awarding of the Commendation for Gallantry to 28 servicemen who were killed while escaping or following recapture during World War II has been approved by the Governor-General, His Excellency General the Honourable Sir Peter Cosgrove AK MC (Retd). Link to page.
The extraordinary gallantry displayed by members of RAN Helicopter Flight Vietnam in South Vietnam from October 1967 to June 1971 is being recognised by the Unit Citation for Gallantry.
Veterans who served with RAN Helicopter Flight Vietnam in the period from 1 October 1967 to 8 June 1971 are entitled to wear the Citation insignia with Federation Star. Link to page.
The extraordinary gallantry displayed by members of the 1st Australian Task Force (Forward) and associated units deployed to Area of Operations SURFERS during the Battles of Fire Support Bases Coral and Balmoral is being recognised by the Unit Citation for Gallantry.
Veterans who served in the cited units during the Battles are entitled to wear the Citation insignia with Federation Star. Link to page.
