The Foundation Geospatial Trainee Program combines paid full-time employment with a nationally recognised qualification.

Trainees will undertake workplace-based learning while completing a Certificate IV in Spatial Information Services. Trainees will develop practical skills using contemporary geospatial technologies and contribute to real Defence outcomes within a unique and professional environment.

The program provides an opportunity to build technical capability, gain valuable workplace experience and establish a long-term career pathway within Defence.

While participating in the program, Trainees are employed at the Australian Public Service (APS) Level 3 (Technical) classification. 

Upon successful completion of the program, participants may be offered ongoing employment opportunities within Defence, subject to workforce requirements and performance.

Applicants who already possess a geographic information systems (GIS) qualification may also wish to explore direct entry via Defence APS employment opportunities.

Eligibility

To be eligible for the program, candidates must be:

• an Australian citizen
• willing to undergo health, character and security assessments
• eligible to obtain and maintain the required Australian Government security clearance.

Successful applicants will be required to complete the security clearance process through the Australian Government Security Vetting Agency (AGSVA).

Ideal candidates

Candidates do not need previous geospatial experience to apply.
