The Department of Defence recognises the importance of providing local residents, statutory authorities and other interested stakeholders with an opportunity to provide input into, or raise concerns relating to the NCIS Project.
As part of Defence’s ongoing community consultation strategy, Federal and State Parliamentary members, local office holders and a range of local community and industry groups and representatives will be consulted on the proposed works.
Operating under the provisions of the Public Works Act 1969, the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Public Works (PWC) holds enquiries into Commonwealth funded public works that the Australian Parliament refers to the PWC. The PWC's investigation and subsequent report provides the basis for Parliamentary approval for projects to proceed (that it is 'expedient to proceed').
Submissions to the PWC are currently open. More information on the PWC process can be found at www.aph.gov.au.
Defence is hosting a number of public information sessions to provide the community with an opportunity to find out information about the proposed works and to ask questions one-on-one with Defence representatives.
The session will be an informal drop-in session which are open to the public.
