PFAS Investigation & Management

A PFAS Management Area Plan has been developed based on the findings of the environmental investigation. Defence will continue to focus on managing PFAS contamination. Where required, potential management activities will be guided by the options presented in the PFAS Management Area Plan and informed by ongoing monitoring.

PFAS Management Area Plan
The PFAS Management Area Plan informs the activities Defence will undertake to manage, monitor and reduce potential risks of PFAS exposure on, and around, the Base.
Detailed Site Investigation
The Detailed Site Investigation involved sampling of soil, sediment, surface water and groundwater to better understand how PFAS moves through the environment.
Preliminary Site Investigation
The Preliminary Site Investigation involved a review of the historical use of firefighting foams on-Base to identify potenital sources of PFAS contamination.
Preliminary Sampling Program
The Preliminary Sampling Program was undertaken at 12 Defence sites, including HMAS Cerberus. Based on the findings of this program, the 12 sites involved progressed to Detailed Environmental Investigations.
