Air Vice-Marshal Jack Plenty and Steve Grzeskowiak are leading a small team to develop a plan that drives the acceleration of the implementation of corporate and shared services reforms across the whole of Defence.

A crucial first outcome includes a plan to implement the reduction of 1000 Defence public service positions in line with government direction in the Budget on May 8.

The review, which at the time of printing was in its final stages, will examine opportunities and identify areas across Defence where potential reductions may be made.

The reduction in APS positions will be achieved through natural attrition to the greatest extent possible, a tightening of recruitment priorities, and the possibility of voluntary redundancies in targeted areas.

A further report will be published in Issue 5.
