The Hawkei is an Australian built light-weight four-wheel drive Protected Mobility Vehicle. It is highly mobile and highly protected with inbuilt systems allowing the vehicle to operate as an integral part of the combined arms team. Defence is acquiring 1098 Vehicles in 2 variants, and 1058 companion trailers.
The Hawkei provides a high level of protection for soldiers against blast and ballistic threats with superior off-road mobility. It can carry up to 4 troops and will be used to perform reconnaissance, liaison, command and utility roles. Additionally, the Hawkei includes an integral computing system, which is a suite of communications systems including a Battle Management System and radios, operating through a common interface.
The Hawkei has integral armour and can be fitted with applique armour and electronic countermeasure systems. The vehicle will be fitted with cupolas (manned weapon systems) or a remote weapon station (electronic weapon system) which can operate machineguns and automatic grenade launchers.
