The role of United Nations Disengagement Observer Force (UNDOF) is to maintain the ceasefire between Israel and Syria and to supervise the areas of separation and limitation, as provided in the May 1974 Agreement on Disengagement.
The deployed Australian Defence Force Officer is the Australian representative to UNDOF, and provides mentoring and training advice to the UNDOF contingent at Camp Faouar in Syria.
The position within UNDOF adds to Australia’s other peacekeeping contributions in the region, including the United Nations Truce Supervision Organization under Operation Paladin, and the non-United Nations Multi-national Force and Observers in the Sinai under Operation Mazurka.
