Enterprise Resource Planning Program

The Defence Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) Program is a Defence-wide priority and a key part of the Defence transformation agenda.

ERP will enable Defence to better adapt and evolve to meet strategic challenges, and Defence Industry play a key role in ensuring the transition to ERP is successful. The following video demonstrates the commitment from Defence senior leaders in delivering ERP in Defence.

Benefits

ERP is introducing the latest SAP solution (SAP S/4HANA) which will be delivered over a number of years, in a series of phases called 'tranches'.

The Defence ERP solution seeks to:

  • drive alignment and standardisation
  • implement fit for purpose IT systems
  • encourage better ways of working
  • develop an integrated force structure view with measurable inputs to capability.

Change effects

Business operation changes will have varying affects on Defence personnel and Defence Industry. 

Defence is committed to ensuring industry is informed and involved in the transformation in order to enhance enterprise capability.    

The key changes for Defence Industry as a result of Tranche 1B Main include:

  • delivery of an integrated supply chain capability
  • new enterprise asset management framework for Defence materiel
  • new master data standards and governance
  • new system and ways of working
  • introduction of the SAP Business Network for Procurement
  • alignment of contracts and key performance indicators with ERP data
  • participation in ERP training.

Timeline

Each tranche includes a design, realisation, deployment and Go Live phase and are scheduled to Go Live in a staggered approach.

  • Tranche 1 Release 1A – an early release of Finance foundations providing an enhanced reporting capability
    Delivered: January 2020 – July 2021
  • Tranche 3 Release 1A – introduction of Force Element and Performance and Goals
    Delivered: November 2023
  • Tranche 2 Case Management – introducing a simplified, integrated and standardised case management system
    Delivered: May 2024
  • Tranche 3 Performance & Goals (P&G) – introduction of a One Defence end-to-end performance management system, which includes Goal Setting, Performance Reviews and Continuous Performance
    Go Live: 21 October 2024
  • Tranche 1B Main – providing logistics and Defence materiel maintenance capability and establishing the remaining foundations for the Defence ERP transformation
  • Tranche 3 – following successful rollout of Tranches 1 and 2 with staggered releases until 2030.

Training

Training will be provided to industry partners with minimum baseline clearance and Defence login credentials, guided by any contractual obligations. This will help prepare industry partners for the new ERP solution and ways of working.
