Before submitting any application with DEC you must register with DEC and receive a DECS Client Registration Number (DCRN). The client registration form collects the relevant organisational and contact information to create a unique registration record.
Registrations should be made in the name of the entity that will be the exporter for the purposes of the export declaration to the Australian Border Force (ABF). For example, System Program Offices (SPO) from the Capability Acquisition and Sustainment Group (CASG) must register the SPO as the client. A person who is taking a firearm overseas for a competition must register themselves as the client. There is no requirement for individuals submitting applications on behalf of an organisation to register separately.
When registering contacts for a company or government entity, each contact must have their own individual email addresses.
It is important to keep DEC informed if any of your registration details change, because these details are used when requesting additional information and issuing a permit. Client registration details can be updated by sending an email to DEC
Please note: registering with DEC also requires either a valid Australian Business Number (ABN) or Cargo Client ID (CCID) issued by the ABF. More information on obtaining a CCID can be found at the ABF website.
