Before taking a remote posting, a Defence social worker will work with families to explore the following:
- preparedness for a remote posting
- right time for the family to take a remote posting
- creating a family plan for the remote posting.
There are limitations in a remote posting that families should keep in mind, such as:
- limited social connections in small communities
- limited education and child care options
- limited employment opportunities for partners
- long distances from health care and other professional services.
- high cost of living due to transport requirements.
