Remote Australia posting

Postings in remote Australian location offers new experiences and different opportunities for ADF members and families.

Defence encourages members and their families to embrace the slower pace of life.

Before taking a remote posting, a Defence social worker will work with families to explore the following:

  • preparedness for a remote posting
  • right time for the family to take a remote posting
  • creating a family plan for the remote posting.

There are limitations in a remote posting that families should keep in mind, such as:

  • limited social connections in small communities
  • limited education and child care options
  • limited employment opportunities for partners
  • long distances from health care and other professional services.
  • high cost of living due to transport requirements.
