How do I renew my registration?
AHPRA will send a letter six to eight weeks before you are due to renew with your User ID and password. This enables you to renew online. If you have limited registration or you are a chiropractor, you cannot renew online, as there are additional information requirements.
If you don't have your letter four weeks before you are due to renew, please contact AHRPA on 1300 419 495 and tell the AHPRA staff member that you have not received a renewal letter and form. They will provide you with your user ID and password.
When you renew your registration, make sure you check the registration standards for your profession, as you must meet these under the National Law. These standards are published on your National Board website.
What is my renewal fee?
The fee for your profession is detailed on your registration renewal form and is listed on the website for your National Board under Fees in the menu on the left of the screen.
What happens if I do not renew before my registration expires?
Under the National Law you must renew your registration within one month of the expiry date or your registration will lapse. This means that you have one month after your expiry date to renew. You can still work in this period because you will still be registered. Your employer can review your registration status online. If you have not renewed within one month after the expiry date and you wish to continue practising your profession, you will need to make a new application for registration.
When you renew your registration, make sure you check the registration standards for your profession, as you must meet these under the National Law. These are published on your National Board website.
From 1 July 2010 practitioners of the Nursing and Midwifery professions across Australia will have to meet the same requirements to be registered and their registration will be recognised in all States and Territories.
Overview of the National Registration and Accreditation Scheme for the Health Professions
In March 2008 the Council of Australian Governments (COAG) decided to create a single national scheme for the registration and accreditation of health practitioners from 1 July 2010.
The National Registration and Accreditation Scheme for the Health Professions consists of a Ministerial Council, an independent Australian Health Workforce Advisory Council, a national agency with an Agency Management Committee, national profession-specific boards, committees of the boards, a national office to support the operations of the scheme, and at least one local presence in each State and Territory.
The new national agency which is responsible for regulating health professionals within Australia is called the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
