Since 1944, in response to the need for Japanese linguists during World War Two, the Defence Force School of Languages has provided language training and assessment. The School plays a pivotal role in generating the Australian Defence Force’s languages other than English capability. The Defence Force School of Languages is located at RAAF Williams – Laverton in Victoria.
The Defence Force School of Languages delivers language and cultural training to select personnel across Levels Two and Three of the Joint Professional Military Education Continuum. The School provides 53 courses across 18 languages. Graduates apply their language skills seamlessly in communities across the globe.
