The Defence First Nations Commitment 2025-2030 (the Commitment) outlines how Defence will work in partnership with First Nations peoples to achieve meaningful and measurable outcomes across the Defence enterprise.

The Commitment reflects Defence’s responsibility to listen, engage and take action to strengthen culture, capability and trust.

Defence, through the Commitment, will take practical action to support First Nations peoples join and stay with Defence, to continue to live fulfilling lives. The Commitment will assist Defence engagement with local communities and cultures by ensuring action is embedded, upheld, and in alignment to the National Agreement on Closing the Gap.

Through the Commitment, Defence will:

  • support First Nations peoples to join Defence
  • work to ensure First Nations peoples can thrive while serving or working in Defence
  • strengthen relationships with First Nations communities
  • embed First Nations perspectives across Defence culture, systems and decision making.
