Defence, through the Commitment, will take practical action to support First Nations peoples join and stay with Defence, to continue to live fulfilling lives. The Commitment will assist Defence engagement with local communities and cultures by ensuring action is embedded, upheld, and in alignment to the National Agreement on Closing the Gap.
Through the Commitment, Defence will:

- work to ensure First Nations peoples can thrive while serving or working in Defence
- strengthen relationships with First Nations communities
- embed First Nations perspectives across Defence culture, systems and decision making.
