Security and Estate Group develops, sustains and protects the Defence Estate and is the security and service delivery organisation for Defence.
The Group performs a wide range of strategic functions for Defence.
- Plans, designs and delivers Defence infrastructure and manages the complex Defence Estate – maintaining environmental stewardship of over 3.8 million hectares, the largest landholding in the Commonwealth with 70 major bases, 70 plus training ranges, and more than 800 leased or owned properties.
- Controls Base Services, including access control, catering and hospitality, accommodation, building and grounds maintenance, firefighting, cleaning and laundry.
- Leads Defence integrated and digital service delivery.
- Provides Defence protective security services and advice.
- Manages the Defence Industry Security Program.
- Delivers security clearances for Defence, the Government and industry through the Australian Government Security Vetting Agency.
- Contributes to broader national security through the effective management of the Defence Security Principles Framework.
- Implements the Government’s direction and strategic intent on estate related priorities.
- Supports Defence wide integration and collaboration to strengthen the resilience of the Defence Estate.
- Drives process reform and Defence Estate optimisation, while providing a principle-coordinating role for engagement with central agencies on estate management policy.
