RAAF Base Tindal Redevelopment

Overview

RAAF Base Tindal is located 15 km outside Katherine and 320 km south-east of Darwin in the Northern Territory.

This project aims to address functional deficiencies and capacity constraints in existing facilities and infrastructure. The project also aims to address risks associated with non-compliant facilities to reduce ongoing operating costs by replacing under-utilised or redundant facilities.

Community information

Defence recognises the importance of consulting with local residents, statutory authorities and other interested stakeholders on the project.

Government, local community, and industry groups have been consulted on the proposed works.

Project details

Project element Description
Permanent living in accommodation
  • construction of three new buildings providing 108 single occupancy units.
Electrical infrastructure
  • upgrades to key elements of the system, including replacing underground high voltage cabling 
  • replacement of the Central Emergency Power Station with a new facility 
  • replace and/or upgrade of substations
  • install power control and monitoring cabling underground.
Hydraulic infrastructure
  • upgrades to potable water, sewer and stormwater networks.
Control and Reporting Unit facilities
  • construction of two new buildings
  • demolition/decommission of redundant buildings and associated structures.
Security Force Amenities facilities
  • reconfiguration of working accommodation areas 
  • refresh of building services and finishes
  • construction of a new amenities annex.
Visiting Squadron facility
  • construction of a new purpose-built facility, including additional car parking.
